Belvedér

Belvedér ( German Belvedere) is a viewpoint of the Bohemian Switzerland in the Czech Republic. It is located at Labe Stráň ( Elbleiten ) high above the Elbe Valley.

History

Prince Franz -Karl Clary Aldringens had to create the observation deck at the beginning of the 18th century. An artificial niche was used for theater performances and the like. She was initially decorated with a theater mask, and later from the coat of arms of the royal family. The place was used for recreation and entertainment of the nobility.

An avenue connects the Belvedér with the former summer residence - Castle Binsdorf. When in 1790 the castle burnt down, had lost interest in the lookout.

Thus, the place for tourists was accessible. 1889 opened a large restaurant, which was used after 1945 as operating holiday home. After 1990 the building was again privatized and a hotel.

The viewpoint is located about 130 meters above the Elbe River and offers views of the Elbe Valley. Directly across the deeply cut Elbe valley lies the small town of Dolni Žleb (low base ). Next up river you recognize Čertova Voda ( Tschirte ) and Podskalí ( rattles ). In good weather the view according to Decin ( Decin ).
