The Bemidji State University is a university in Bemidji, Minnesota. The university with approximately 5,000 students has a campus on Lake Bemidji and is part of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system.

History

In 1919, the Bemidji State Normal School was founded, initially trained teachers for primary schools and later also for high schools. As early as 1921 it was transformed into the Bemidji State Teachers College. In 1957, the college was to Bemidji State College in 1975 and finally to Bemidji State University.

Today it offers 65 undergraduate programs and 14 graduate programs. Currently around 5,000 students are enrolled, which are divided into approximately 4450 undergraduate students and approximately 450 graduate students.

Sports

The sports teams of the University Beavers hot and occur in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference on within the NCAA Division II. An exception are the Hockey teams that compete in the Division I. The women's team plays in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association, the men's team is represented in the College Hockey America. The colors are green, black and white, the mascot is called Bucky.

The greatest success was achieved by the men 's ice hockey team in the playoffs in 2009, when it could qualify for the Frozen Four Division I, the tournament four of the best college teams in the United States for the first time. There she was defeated in the semifinals.
