Ben Collins (racing driver)
Ben Collins ( born February 13, 1975 in Bristol, England ) is a British racing driver. According to his autobiography, he entered between 2003 and 2010 as The Stig in the British TV show Top Gear on. He also works as a stunt driver for movies like James Bond 007: Quantum of Solace.
Life
Collins studied law at the University of Exeter and served four years with the British Army. He began his motorsport career in 1994 and drove the following year in the Formula Vauxhall Junior and Formula Opel Winter Series. In 1996 he moved to the British Formula 3 Championship, where he drove for Fortec Motorsport and finished the season in eighth place. In 1999 he drove in the American Indy Lights series, finishing in the end of the season the thirteenth place. He then returned to the British Formula 3 Championship and achieved the end of the season again eighth. 2001 Collins went along with Werner Lupberger for Ascari Cars in the FIA Sportscar Championship, with them the victory at Donington Park succeeded. 2003 to 2004 he appeared for RML in the NASCAR series; in the first year, he won six races and was champion. He then competed in the FIA GT Championship, the FIA GT3 European Championship and the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup.
In addition to his racing career, Collins works as a stunt driver for film and television. According to his autobiography, he entered between 2003 and 2010 to 101 in consequences as The Stig in the British television show Top Gear. The identity of the Stig had previously been kept secret for years. The BBC tried unsuccessfully to prevent the publication.
On February 12, 2014, it was announced that he will be part of the Drivers Club of the new Formula E racing series.
Collins is married and has three children.
