Ben Elton

Benjamin "Ben" Charles Elton ( May 3, 1959 District Catford, London Borough of Lewisham ) is a British writer, playwright and comedian. He wrote, among other things, the libretto for the successful also in Germany musical We Will Rock You, in which the music of the band Queen is the focus. In Britain, he was driven by his co- authorship of the cult series Blackadder with "Mr. Bean " Rowan Atkinson known.

Career

Elton is the son of the educational researcher Lewis Elton. He graduated studied acting in Manchester and originally wanted to be a theater director. His plays Gasping (1990 ), Silly Cow ( 1991) Popcorn (1996) and Blast from the Past ( 1997) were great successes. Popcorn won the " TMA Barclays Theatre Award ", the " Olivier Award" and the French " Molière Award".

1992 Elton began to work as an actor and took over the lead role in the film adaptation of his own novel Stark. Developed in co-production with the ABC movie production, directed by Nadia Tass was filmed in Australia. In addition, he starred in Kenneth Branagh's Much Ado About Nothing the role of " Verges " at the side of Michael Keaton.

2000 Elton wrote and directed his first film, the romantic comedy Maybe Baby with Hugh Laurie and Joely Richardson in the lead roles. In the same year, was created in collaboration with Andrew Lloyd Webber The Beautiful Game, which was awarded the " Critics Award " Best Musical. His second musical, We Will Rock You, which premiered in London in 2002 and received the " theatergoers Choice Award". Since then, the Queen musical celebrated as, inter alia, in the USA, Germany, Australia, South Africa, Russia, Spain, Canada, Austria and Switzerland Premiere. Elton's last musical project is Tonight's The Night with the music of Rod Stewart, which premiered in November 2003.

Since 2004 Elton is an Australian citizen. He lives in London and Fremantle, Western Australia. In 2007 he received the Honorary Golden Rose of the television festival Rose d'Or.
