Ben Komproe

Bernhard " Ben" Komproe ( born October 22, 1942 in Curaçao, † 11 October 2004 in Willemstad, Curaçao) was a politician of the Netherlands Antilles.

Biography

Ben Komproe was on 22 July 2003 Prime Minister of the Netherlands Antilles, and thus head of the first of the Frente Obrero Liberashon (Workers' Liberation Front ) formed government. Komproe took office as chairman of the FOL Anthony Godett could not even be Prime Minister because of ongoing investigations. Already on 11 August 2003 followed Godetts sister Mirna Louisa- Godett Komproe as prime minister, so that he was only 20 days in office.

In the cabinet of Louisa- Godett Komproe was then on 11 August 2003 Minister of Justice. The opposition accused in illegal behavior shortly before, because he allowed the condemned FOL Member Nelson Monte stay on the private ward of a hospital, although this would have to be in prison. The allegations led to his resignation as Minister of Justice in April 2004, and ultimately to overthrow the government of Louisa- Godett on 3 June 2004.

On 6 September 2004, he was even arrested on suspicion of fraud, corruption and professional participation in a criminal organization. Allegedly, he gave dozens of prostitutes from the Dominican Republic and Colombia, a residence permit for work in the open air brothel Campo Allegre as consideration for the receipt of funds for the FOL from the owner of the Campo Alegre, Giovanni van Ierland. During the detention, he fell ill and remained unconscious after an emergency operation until his death.
