Benaoján

Benaoján is a town in Andalusia, the province of Malaga on the northeast edge of the Sierra de Libar.

Geology and Geography

The small town is situated within a two kilometer long and up to 0.5 km wide sediment level in 520 meters, which he now fills more than half. With up to 1200 meters high karst mountains of the Sierra and the up to 800 m high ridge of the eastern Montalate the plane forms a trough-shaped pool, a Polje.

Over a mere 100 meters high mountain saddle in the southeast are level and place connected with the valley of the Rio Guadiaro. In the river valley leading from Ronda to Algeciras national road and the railway line to the city's train station.

As in all poljes, the sediment level is drained only by karst openings. Depending on years of temporal precipitation is found in the plane too much or too little water. Due to the dense population, seizure of agricultural and traffic pollutants in a karst sink the water balance here is even more precarious than would otherwise be the case anyway in the hot, dry season in Andalusia.

Neighboring municipalities are Ronda, Montejaque and Jimena de la Frontera. Benaoján maintains a twinning with Knittlingen in Baden- Württemberg ( Germany ).
