Benarrabá

Benarrabá is a village in the province of Málaga, part of the autonomous community of Andalusia in southern Spain. It is located 157 km from Málaga and 37 km from Ronda. Its population is 544 ( in 2013 ). The inhabitants call themselves Benarrabeños.

It is assumed that the place in the Islamic era the region by descendants of the Berber tribe of the spell Rabbah ( sons of Rabaah ) was founded and of which the name of the village originates.

The first settlers ( no longer existing today ) built on Monte Poron also a fortress from which they had a comprehensive look into the neighboring towns Jubrique, Gaucin, Algatocín and Genalguacil. This could be monitored and defended large parts of the valley of Genal.

After the conquest of the settlement by the Christians, the lands passed into the hands of the house of Medina -Sidonia.

An existing historic building is the parish church of San Sebastián, which was built in the first half of the 18th century and later rebuilt several times.
