Benicàssim

Benicàssim ( Valencian, Spanish: Benicassim ) is a town on the Costa del Azahar in Castellón Province in the Valencian Community ( Valencian Community ), Spain. The city is adjacent to the north of Castellón de la Plana. Due to its function as a tourist destination, the population is increasing in the season to up to 40,000 people.

History

During the Spanish Civil War from 1936 to 1939 the persecution by the Nazis fled to Spain German - Jewish physician Dr. Günter Bodek headed here as the head physician on the Republican side, the hospital center.

In late summer 1937, the editor of the magazine visited New Theater Herbert Kline, the photographer Henri Cartier -Bresson and the cameraman Jacques Lemare the hospital center to make a documentary about the American medical corps of the American Medical Bureau in the Spanish Civil War. They turned in the hospital of the International Brigades (Villa Paz ) in Saelices, near the Spanish capital.
