The airport Benghazi Benina (English: Benina International Airport, Arabic: مطار بنينة الدولي ) is an airport in Benghazi in Libya.
Location
The airport is located near the city Benina, approximately 19 km east of Benghazi.
History
During the uprising in Libya, March 4, 2011, it was near the airport, in Ar - Rajmah an explosion of an ammunition depot. 17 people are, according to information from Al Jazeera, have been killed. It was unclear whether the cause was an accident, an act of sabotage or an air attack.
Airfield characteristics
The Tower ( TWR ) sends and receives on the frequency: 118.1 MHz. The airport has several navigation aids. The non-directional beacon ( NDB ) transmits on the frequency: 342 kHz with the ID: BNA. The omnidirectional radio range (VOR) transmits on frequency: 117.4 MHz with code BNA. A distance measuring equipment (DME ) is available.
Incidents
According to ASN several accidents are known in the vicinity of the airport. On August 9, 1958 a Vickers Viscount crashed near the airport. This 36 occupants were killed.
