Beninese presidential election, 2011

The presidential elections in Benin in 2011 were held on 13 March 2011 in the West African state of Benin, after two times - had been postponed - from 27 February to 6 March and finally to the actual date March 13. The elections ended officially with the victory of the incumbent Boni Yayi. A second passage - which would have taken place on March 27 - was not necessary, as had received Boni Yayi more than 50 % of the vote in the 1st passage. The opposition spoke of electoral fraud. However, observers of the United Nations and the African Union described the elections as free and transparent.

Before the election, there had been problems with the new computerized voter - registration process. Therefore opposition protests led to the two-time extension of the deadline, since shortly before the original date about 1.3 million voters were not registered.
