Benjamín Paredes

Benjamín Paredes ( Benjamín Paredes VENCAR Martínez, born April 30, 1962 in Ecatepec de Morelos ) is a retired Mexican long- distance runner who specializes in the marathon distance.

His first major success he achieved in 1993 with his victories in the Maratón de la Comarca Lagunera and the marathon of the Central American and Caribbean Games in Ponce. In 1994 he was third in the Rotterdam Marathon. However, international attention has been given to him only at the New York City Marathon the same year received. The race took a strange turn when his friend and training partner Germán Silva lying about one kilometer has been misdirected to the finish in the lead and had to run a detour. Paredes was able to take the lead in the meantime, but was overtaken at the end of Silva and finished the race in second place.

At the Pan American Games in 1995 in Mar del Plata Paredes won the victory in the marathon. In 1996 he finished eighth at the Olympic Games in Atlanta. In 2000 he again won the Maratón de la Comarca Lagunera, but achieved at the Olympic Games in Sydney only the 64th place. The marathon of the World Athletics Championships in Edmonton in 2001, he finished at No. 19 in 2001 and 2003, he finished second in the comarca Lagunera.
