Bennett's fracture

In the Bennett fracture (also Bennett fracture-dislocation ) is a fracture at the base of the first metacarpal bone which pulls up into the carpometacarpal joint. The metacarpal is displaced by the train of accreting here tendon of the abductor pollicis longus to proximal. Usually a smaller triangular fragment remains are at the ulnar joint.

Mechanism of injury

The fracture usually occurs at a compression trauma to the adducted thumb.

Therapy

The reduction is performed by abduction of the thumb. Then takes place depending on the repositioning result a conservative immobilization ( cast ) or surgical stabilization.

Differential Diagnosis

Delimit From the Bennett fracture are fractures of the base of the first metacarpal bone which does not move into the joint ( Winterstein fracture ). A Bennett 's fracture with a comminuted fracture is called a Rolando fracture.
