Benoît Audran the Elder

Benoît Audran the Elder ( * November 22, 1661 in Lyon, † October 2, 1721 in Louzouer, Loiret ) was a French engraver.

He and his brothers Claude Audran III and Jean Audran were sons of the engraver Germain Audran ( born December 6, 1631 Lyon; ibid † May 4, 1710, the eldest son of Claude Audran I).

He was a pupil of his uncle Gérard Audran. His oeuvre includes more than 200 stitches. He made alongside reproductions of Charles Le Brun, François Verdier, Eustache Le Sueur and Mignard Pierre numerous vignettes for books like 1718 to Daphnis and Chloe.

In 1709 he was accepted at the Royal Academy, with a portrait of Jean -Baptiste Colbert, by Claude Lefebvre ( 1633-1675 ) and Raising of the Cross according to Lebrun.
