Bentley 3 Litre

Bentley 3 Litre was a sports car model of Bentley Motors Ltd..

History and Production

The first independent Bentley model was produced from 1921 to 1929 and first presented in May 1919 with an engine mock-up. The development of the engine took a long time, which is why the first Bentley was delivered in September 1921. The fastest variant of the 3 Litre, the Supersports, reached the then very prestigious 100 mph ( 160 km / h). Thus, the top model at the time was the fastest production road car in the world. This record was surpassed by the Bentley 4 ½ Litre. Bentley offered the vehicles as chassis (chassis) and recommended many customers to Stellmacher Vanden Plas for building up the body.

The last major production year was 1927 with 117 chassis. After small numbers were only produced (1928: 34, 1929: 6, 1930: 1). Total 1622 chassis were produced. He was thus the best-selling model in the range of Bentley Motors Ltd.. from 1919 to 1931.

Variants

The 3 Litre, there were three major variants, which were distinguished by the color of the grille emblem. Customers were offered on demand but also to every variant a different colored emblem, so the emblem is not a reliable distinguishing feature.
