The mountains Fjord with a loading capacity of 310 698 tonnes and a length of 332 meters one of the largest bulk carrier of the world. The sailing under the flag of Panama ship belongs to the mountains Fjord Company and is used by mountains Bulk (Singapore) bereedert.

History and Background

The mountains Fjord was from 1985 to 1987 under the hull number 145. Than Docefjord on the Brazilian shipyard Ishikawajima do Brazil Estaleiros for the Liberian company Wilsea Shipping Inc., a joint venture of the Norwegian company Wilh Wilhelmsen and the Brazilian state-owned company Docenave built. The keel of the ship was made on March 12, the launching on 17 December 1985. Completion was on 27 March 1987. The ship was temporarily after its completion the largest bulk carrier of the world.

The ship, which first came under the flag of Liberia in ride was designed as Erz-/Öl-Frachtschiff. It was, together with its sister ship Tijuca (now Mountain Vik ) used for the transport of ore from Brazil to Japan and subsequent transport of oil from the Persian Gulf to Europe. Each of these tours took about 100 days.

Technical data and equipment

The ship is powered by a diesel engine, Sulzer (type: 8RTA 84) driven with a total output of 25,651 kW. The fuel consumption is in operation at about 194 tons per day. For the power supply several diesel generators are available.

The bodies, which extend over about half of the width of the ship are located aft. At the height of the bridge deck there are two bridge wings that extend from the bridge over the entire width of the ship.

Before the bodies are five cargo holds, which are closed with two hatch covers. The hatch covers can mount up to the starboard side.
