History

Background - time before 2006 and founding

After the for indoor handball has always been successful bergischen sports clubs, the LTV Wuppertal and SG Solingen, with some seasons in the Bundesliga won its greatest successes in the late 1990s and early 2000s, gaped after 2002 suddenly a big gap in Bergisch top handball.

After four years in the German upper house of the LTV was after the Bundesliga relegation in 2001 ( under the name HC Wuppertal) promptly passed to the Regional and was forced to renew its structures. This measure brought them while in 2004 another stay in the Bundesliga 2, but this turned out not very successful, because after only two years in 2006 had again begun the transition to the Regionalliga.

The SG Solingen, which is formed by the PSVG Jahn Solingen and the sports ring Solingen- Höhscheid - Widdert, could hold the class for only two years after the first Bundesliga promotion in 2000 and increased in 2002 by a defeat in the relegation against Wilhelmshaven HV again. In subsequent seasons in the Bundesliga 2 was vainly trying to rise again before the 14th place for years was in season 2005/ 06 is by far the worst season of SGS to end and the Bergische country which in the years before Bundesliga Handball was spoiled, had to settle for now with the relegation battle in the second division.

Given this rapid drop in performance of both teams competed, the SG Solingen and Stefan Adam, the then manager of the LTV Wuppertal and later of the Bergisch HC, even during the 2005/ 06 season in secret merger negotiations. This eventually resulted in an agreement that was rejected categorically by officials and fans of Langerfelder gymnastics club. Thus Adam could only achieve a partial merger, which was limited to the transfer of the management of the squad and the main sponsor of the LTV to Solinger rivals. The LTV, shaken by these elementary losses, though could still provide a Regional team on the legs, however, this was not competitive, which meant the direct fall in the fourth-rate league. Today, the first men's team of LTV Wuppertal plays in the fünftklassigen Association league.

For the SG Solingen, however, this meant the renaming and thus the conversion to bergischen giants, viewers from across the Bergisch City-Triangle (Wuppertal - Solingen - Remscheid ) is expected to attract. The main venue of the BHC has since been held in Wuppertal (until 2011 in Wuppertal- Sonnborner Bayer Hall, and since 2011 in the university hall ). Only top games and the most recent games of round-trip round are still held in the Solingen blades hall.

2006-2011 - promotion battle in Bundesliga House

Even the first season of the newly established Bergische HC was under the clear objective of the rise in the 1st Handball Bundesliga. However failed " the lions " to this in subsequent seasons always scarce. In the first three years after the merger, we always had to make do with seats behind the ascent or relegation zone. In contrast, this was in the season 2009/10, as one after a strong season in second place - only behind the TSG Friesenheim - occupied and thus qualified for the Bundesliga relegation. There they met the second of the North Group, the TV Emsdetten, who avoided for its home match in the Munster Berg Fidel Hall, where she won with 33:27. In the return match in the Wuppertal Bayer Hall of BHC had a long run after a residue. It eventually won the game with 37:36 still, but this of course is not enough for a place in the second round, in which the TV Emsdetten just outside the TSV Dormagen failed and remained also in the second division. The same fate seemed the Bergische until the last matchday of the 2010/11 season expected. There they had on the final day to relegation-threatened EHV Aue, while superior to a point and a much better goal difference TV Huettenberg had to compete with the equally relegation HG Saarlouis. Mountain hut was defeated in a tight game with 36:35 and thus the Bergische HC had the great opportunity for advancement. " The Lions " could use them through a grueling 22:25 away victory and thus bring the Bergische Land for the first time in nine years again Bundesliga Handball.

In the DHB Cup could provide for the first time nationwide attention in 2010 also. After a second round win against TSG Friesenheim, they reached the quarter-finals, in which one failed with 22:26 on the Bundesliga club TuS N- Lübbecke. The success in the cup could be continued in the following year. In the third round you defeated after a strong second half in which they conceded only nine goals, the Bundesliga HBW Balingen- Weilstetten 29:24. In the second round they were again drawn against a Bundesliga club. This time it was the top team Frisch Auf Göppingen, who had to compete in the Solingen blades hall. In an exciting game that the Bergische HC led long, lost " the lion " after extension with 28:30.

From 2011 - failure in the Bundesliga and resurgence

With the geschafften promotion to the Bundesliga, the BHC had to reorient to important levels. This was less on the squad to which has not been completely revamped as with many other clubs, but only specifically enhanced with relatively few players, but even more to the Hall situation in the Bergische Land. Here, the officers saw confronted with the problem that both halls in which the BHC had discharged his second league home games, in their then state were not bundesliga fit in many ways. This was mainly due to a lack of capacity, the exposure and the hall floor, but also to small or not existing VIP areas and additional provisions, which were mainly caused by the high television presence. It was finally decided that Bayer Hall in favor of the larger university hall give up for now and upgrade the short Klingenhalle bundesliga fit.

Playful allowed the Bergische look back in the Hinserie their first Bundesliga season on some decent performances. While were on the minus side very quickly a lot more points than on positive side, but especially by important away victory against direct competitors to the non- relegation places, and not least by a euphoric celebrated 40:31 win against the established SC Magdeburg, in the back player Kenneth Klev scored ten goals, stood at the turn of the 15th Place for beech, which would have entitled to remain in the elite league. However, it was this favorable starting position in the second half of the season, playful through several home defeats against beatable opponents and not least by a playful rehabilitation of VfL Gummersbach, again. Thus again had to be taken up the gear in the second division.

In September 2012, CEO Stefan Adam announced plans to switch to the new year for the German record champions THW Kiel. As the successor acts since January 2013 Jörg Föste, who, like Adam of the founding members and the previous board.

By 23:15 away victory at HC Erlangen, the BHC had already secured five games before the end of the second division season 2012/13 the direct promotion back to the Handball Bundesliga. Through a 21:18 victory at the TV 05 /07 Mountain hut the second division championship was secured in the penultimate round also. In the first five games of the Premiership season 2013/14 the BHC reach four consecutive wins, including a 34:27 against the reigning Champions League winners HSV Hamburg.
