Geography

The community is located 66 km south-east of Berlin, about 7 km east of Fürstenwalde / Spree and about 31 km from Frankfurt ( Oder). It is situated directly on the river Spree and is part of the Office or foreshore.

History

For the first time the village is mentioned in 1285 as birch bridge in a border certificate of the district Fiirstenwalde. The flow, which is called the main ditch is frequently stated as the boundary of the district. Elsewhere it is reported that by Berkenbrück (also called cargo road ) the old military and trade route from Berlin to Frankfurt (Oder) led. Probably led to this old road over a wooden bridge, which connected the banks of the Fließes together. Over the centuries, the spelling changed several times. Since 1775 the place is called as usual today Berkenbrück. 1842 happened the first train Berlin -Frankfurt (Oder) Berkenbrück at a speed of 30 km / h 1859 got Berkenbrück a station building and thus a holding station.
