The Berlin Graduate School for Transnational Studies (BTS ) is a joint project of the Freie Universität Berlin, the Hertie School of Governance and the Social Science Research Center Berlin. It serves as a research platform that combines the research in the field of transnational and international relations. In this topic, the BTS offers an English-language PhD program. Admission are eligible to graduate in political science and related disciplines, such as history, economics and law.

PhD Programme in Transnational Studies

The PhD program at the BTS for three years, and ends with the completion of the PhD thesis within the framework of structured doctoral training. The curriculum while studying is the one in the dissertation and the other in the participation in survey courses, Colloquias and workshops in the field of research methodology.

Each PhD candidate is assigned during the study, a team of three supervisors that cover the thematic area of ​​interest of the candidate. During the first supervisor must be a member of the BTS Faculty mandatory, second and third caregivers can also be selected by an external university. In addition to the methodological and theory-driven studies, professional training is promoted through regular workshops in the field of career planning and development.

Promotion

Since 2010, the BTS receives assistance under the DAAD program " International Doctorate in Germany ". The program line is supported by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and promotes the internationalization of structured doctoral training at the BTS.

Together with the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, the BTS is funded by the Einstein Foundation Berlin as part of the " Berlin Jerusalem Initiative to Enhance Cooperation in the Social Science ." The purpose of support is the targeted use of synergies between the two institutions in particular in the field of interdisciplinary research projects and the exchange of young scientists.
