Berlinghiero Berlinghieri

Berlinghiero Berlinghieri (* Milan; detectable from 1228 in Lucca, † before or around 1242 in Lucca ) was an Italian painter.

In addition to a Berlingerius me pinxit signed crucifix in Lucca there are only two other records in which Berlinghiero Berlinghieri is mentioned. The first from 1228 refers to him as a native of Milan. The second says that he was already dead.

Berlinghiero Berlinghieri was still heavily influenced by the style of the Byzantine painting, but he knew how to make quite peculiar and individual, so that his pictures reveal a significant development of the given pattern. His skills were influential for future artists and were continued mainly by his sons Bonaventura, Barone and Marco. His fame was obviously big enough even during his lifetime, he also influenced painters from other areas sustainable. In particular, in Florence and surroundings his conception of art fell on fertile ground and influenced such artists as the champion of Bigallo or the master of the Cross No. 434

Starting from its only secured work to which around 1220 painted crucifix in Lucca, the research ascribes to him a few more stations to, but they are not always secure in the relationship between him and his sons.
