Bernard Cribbins

Bernard Cribbins OBE ( born December 29, 1928 in Oldham, Lancashire, England ) is a British actor.

Life

Cribbins served after the end of his school days in the airborne troops of the British Parachute Regiment. It first appeared at the theater in his hometown, he received his first appointment in 1956 in a production of The Comedy of Errors at London's West End. In the same year he also began his television career with the presentation of Thomas Traddles in the television adaptation of David Copperfield by Charles Dickens. One of the songs from the West End revue An ' Another Thing he took in 1960 as a single, The folk song reached position 66 on the UK Singles Charts. 1962 three more of his singles reached the British charts, with Hole in the Ground and Right Said Fred were able to place in the top ten. The latter title was later eponymous for the same band.

Cribbins had wanted in the 1960s appearances in various British comedies, including The little ones upwards and Casino Royale with Peter Sellers as well as three films of the Carry-on ... film series. In addition, he starred in the feature film version of the television series Doctor Who with Peter Cushing in the title role. In the UK Cribbins is also known as voice actors, especially by his narrator role in the puppet animation series The Wombles, which was spoken in German by Dieter Hallervorden processing. He appeared in guest roles on several television series and also worked as a narrator for radio productions of the BBC. 1969 to 1970 he had his own personality show on British television and 1966-1991 he was one of the children's program Jackanory storyteller, which also read to Peter Sellers and Prince Charles among others. With 111 episodes Cribbins was the narrator most widely used, he read, among others, from Alice in Wonderland, The Hobbit and The Wizard of Oz since 2007 in the newly imposed science-fiction series Doctor Who he plays the recurring role of Wilfred Mott.

Cribbins has been married since 1955 and has two children.
