Bernard Ford

Bernard Ford ( born September 27, 1947 in London) is a former British figure skater, who started ice dancing.

His Eistanzpartnerin was Diane Towler. The couple, who was trained by Gladys Hogg, 1966 in Bratislava for the first time European Champion and World Champion in Davos for the first time. In 1967 she defended this title at the European Championships in Ljubljana and the World Championships in Vienna. Also in 1968 they were unstoppable and were in Västerås European Champion and World Champion in Geneva. In 1969 she won the European Championship in Garmisch -Partenkirchen their fourth and last European title and at the World Championships in Colorado Springs also their fourth and final world title. At the World Cup, they referred this future world champion Lyudmila and Alexander Gorshkov Pakhomova from the Soviet Union, acting unanimously on the second place. After Ford and Towler finished their amateur career and performed at ice revues.

The four-time British champion in 1968 took the Vorführwettbewerben in ice dancing at the Olympic Winter Games in part. Ice Dancing was only in 1976 olympic.

With four world titles, Bernard Ford and Diane Towler lined up in the ranks of successful British ice dancers. As they had brought Jean Westwood and Lawrence Demmy and Courtney Jones on four world titles. International they are surpassed only by Lyudmila and Alexander Gorshkov Pakhomova who brought it to a total of six titles.

Ford and Towler was awarded the Order of the British Empire. In 1993 they were included in the Figure Skating Hall of Fame.

1971 emigrated Bernard Ford of Canada. There he worked as Eistanztrainer and Eistanzchoreograph. Among his pupils were Tracy Wilson and Robert McCall. Furthermore assisted Ford Technical Eistanzkomitee the ISU.
