Bernard Rose (director)

Bernard Rose ( * August 4, 1960 in London, England ) is a British film director. His film credits include Candyman, Ludwig van B. - Immortal Beloved and Anna Karenina.

At the age of nine years, Rose began with the turning of Super 8 films. In 1975, he won an advertised by the BBC amateur filmmakers competition and thus had the opportunity to broadcast his previous recordings. He worked for Jim Henson on the last season of the Muppet Show and in the film The Dark Crystal. In 1982 he graduated from the National Film and Television School his master and worked as a director of music videos for MTV.

In 1988, he turned with PaperHOUSE his first feature film. His breakthrough came in 1992 with the now cult advanced horror film Candyman. His next film project was Ludwig van B. - Immortal Beloved, with whom he also collaborated on the script, followed by Anna Karenina with Sophie Marceau in the lead role. With its modern adaptation of Tolstoy's novella The Kreutzer Sonata Rose 2007 succeeded thematic integration of the Russian writer with Ludwig van Beethoven, who had previously been the inspiration for two of his most important films.

2012 led Rose directed a German - Italian co-production about the life of violin virtuoso Niccolo Paganini. The film with David Garrett in the lead role is to come in theaters in November 2013.
