Bernardino Rivera Alvarez

Bernardino Rivera Álvarez, OFM ( born January 31, 1925 in Panacachi, Chayanta, Bolivia, † 12 July 2010) was Auxiliary Bishop of Potosí in Bolivia.

Life

Bernardino Rivera Álvarez joined in 1938 the Congregation of the Franciscan in and completed his novitiate 1943/44, in the monastery of Tarija. His first vows he took off on 29 September 1944. He studied philosophy and theology at the Franciscan seminary in Argentina's San Antonio de Padua. Álvarez passed the solemn vows on 1 January 1948 and received on 20 December 1952, the ordination by Tomás Aspe, OFM, Bishop of Cochabamba. After his ordination he worked in pastoral care in Potosí. In 1961 he became superior of the convent of San Antonio de Padua.

Pope Paul VI. 1976 appointed him titular bishop of Mutugenna and appointed him auxiliary bishop in the Diocese of Potosí. He received his episcopal consecration on January 16, 1977 Archbishop Giuseppe Laigueglia, Apostolic Nuncio to Bolivia. Were co-consecrators Bernardo Leonardo Fey Schneider C.Ss.R., Bishop of Potosí, and Giovanni Pellegrini Décimo OFM, Vicar of Cuevo.

2000 took John Paul II to be age-related resignation.
