Bernardo Guimarães

Bernardo Guimarães ( born August 15, 1825 Ouro Preto, Minas Gerais, as Bernardo Joaquim da Silva Guimarães, † March 10, 1884 ibid ) is a Brazilian novelist.

Guimarães ' issues were slavery and its impact on the population, he wrote in 1875, the anti -slavery book Escrava Isaura, which today is part of the school curriculum in Brazil and has been filmed several times. The best-known adaptation comes from the year 1976 and was called The Slave Isaura 1986 only in Germany, then internationally a great success.

Many of his novels have been taken as a template for telenovelas and movies, so his novels O Seminar Paulista and O Garimpeiro were also filmed.
