Bernardo Zenale

Bernardo Zenale, even Bernardino Zenale, (* 1460 in Treviglio, † 1526 in Milan ) was an Italian painter of the Renaissance.

He was probably a pupil of Vincenzo Foppa and worked closely with the originating also from Treviglio Bernardino Butinone together.

His main works include the St. Mary's polyptych ( Mary, St. Martin and other saints ) in San Martino in Treviglio with Bernardino Butinone, a major work of Lombard painting in the 15th century. It was commissioned in 1485 in order. With Butinone he also painted the frescoes in the chapel Grifi in San Pietro in Gessate in Milan ( 1491-1493 ). For the Milanese Duke Ludovico Sforza, he painted around 1490 from a room in the Castello Sforzesco.

Later, the influence of Leonardo da Vinci was with him, so in the altarpiece for the Confraternity of the Immaculate Conception in Cantù, now partly in Los Angeles ( Getty Museum ) and in Milan museums. Another polyptych for Sant ' Anna in Milan is also several museums distributed (Collection Contini Bonacossi in Florence, Spencer Museum of Art in Lawrence ( Kansas) ) today.

He also worked as an architect in 1522 and replaced Giovanni Antonio Amadeo in the line of work on the Cathedral of Milan.
