Bernd H. Niehaus Quesada

Bernd H. Niehaus Quesada ( born April 11, 1941) is a Costa Rican politician and diplomat.

In France, he completed his studies after leaving school at the Institute of Human Rights René Cassin. He studied law, he graduated from the Universidad de Costa Rica. In addition, he also studied economics and political science in Bonn, Hamburg and Cologne. During his studies he was active in the Corps Markomannia Bonn and the Corps Irminsul Hamburg.

Niehaus was from 2002 to July 2010, Ambassador of the Republic of Costa Rica in Germany, Hungary and the Czech Republic. He was previously the Costa Rican ambassador to the Organization of the United Nations (1998-2002) and Minister for Foreign Affairs for the Government of Costa Rica (1980-1982 and 1990-1994). In 1994, he was also a candidate for the General Secretariat of the Organization of American States.

At the University of Costa Rica Niehaus is also Professor of International Law. Since 1974 he is member of the Bar Association of Costa Rica and since 2002 a member of the International Law Commission. He is fluent in Spanish, German, French and English.
