Bernhard Grill

Bernhard Grill ( born January 5, 1961 in Schwabach ) was involved in the development of the MP3 format or method for audio data compression and is next to Harald Popp and Karlheinz Brandenburg as one of his fathers. MP3 was developed at the Friedrich -Alexander- University of Erlangen -Nuremberg and the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits ( IIS) in Erlangen.

Biography

In 1980 he completed his Abitur at Adam Kraft school in Schwabach, then he performed his military service until 1981.

From 1981 to 1987, he studied electrical engineering at the Friedrich- Alexander -University Erlangen -Nuremberg (Diploma 1987).

Grill worked from 1988 to 1995 on the development and implementation of audio coding at the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits (IIS -A) Erlangen. He then from 1995 to 1998 Employees of the Department of Electronics at the Friedrich- Alexander -University Erlangen -Nuremberg. In 1999, he became head of the group Audio Research at the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits (IIS -A) Erlangen. Since 2000 he is Head of Audio / Multimedia at the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits (IIS -A) Erlangen.
