Bernhard Krechting

Bernhard (Bernd ) Krech Ting (* before 1500 in Schöppingen, Münster; † January 22, 1536 in Münster) was a leader of the Anabaptist kingdom of Munster.

Life

Krech Ting was born the son of the town clerk and church musician Engelbert Krechting. Like his five brothers he received higher education, was a clergyman, tutor to Count in Bentheim and received a pastorate at Guild Hall in the county of Bentheim. When he announced there Anabaptist teachings, he was released. He moved with many that he had convinced the Westphalian Münster ( in the so-called " New Jerusalem "). There he became one of the Anabaptist preachers. In the Hofordnung of Jan van Leiden, he ranked as the Council. Acquaintance was and is his brother Heinrich Krechting, the Chancellor of the Empire Baptist. However, this escaped capture, while Bernd Krechting, probably also had to take on behalf of his brother, a painful end to itself.

On January 22, 1536, he was tortured together with Jan van Leiden and Bernd Knipperdolling on the principal market in Münster to death. The bodies were suspended in three iron baskets as a deterrent testimony to all who oppose the Catholic Church on the tower of the Lamberti church, where the baskets have remained until the present time.
