Bert Meijer

EW " Bert" Meijer, EW Meijer cited as, ( born April 22, 1955 in Groningen) is a Dutch chemist ( Macromolecular, Supramolecular Chemistry, Organic Chemistry ). He is a professor at the Technical University Eindhoven.

Meijer studied chemistry at the Technical University of Eindhoven with the completion in 1978 and his doctorate in organic chemistry at Hans Wijnberg 1982 ( via chemiluminescence from 1,2-dioxetanes ). After that he was in Eindhoven, where he primarily focused on conducting polymers to 1992 Philips Natuurkundig laboratory. He was also a 1989-1992 New at Koninklijke DSM as head of materials. In 1991 he became Professor of Organic Chemistry at the Technical University of Eindhoven. Since 2002 he is also professor in the newly established Faculty of Biomedical Engineering, and since 2004 Distinguished University Professor of Molecular Sciences. Since 2008 he is Director of the Institute for Complex Molecular Systems.

He is also Adjunct Professor since 1995 for Macromolecular Chemistry at the Radboud University Nijmegen and since 2006 visiting professor at the University of California, Santa Barbara. He was also a visiting professor at the University of Florida in Gainsville, at the Zheijiang University in China, at the University of Leuven and the University of Illinois at Urbana- Champaign.

It deals with supramolecular polymers and dendrimers and their synthesis.

Since 2006 he is the Scientific Advisory Board of DSM. He is co-founder of SupraPolix (2003) and SYMO Chem ( 2000). In 1993 he received the Gold Medal of the Royal Netherlands Chemical Society, 1995 Arthur K. Doolittle Award of the ACS, 2000, the Silver Medal of the Macro Group of the Royal Society of Chemistry, 2006 ACS Award in Polymer Chemistry and 2001, the highest scientific award of the Netherlands, the Spinoza - Price. In 2010 he received an Advanced Grant from the ERC and the Wheland Medal. He is a member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Sciences ( 2003) and the Dutch Society of Sciences ( 1997). Since 2005 he has been editor of Polymer Science A.

He is married and has two children.
