Berthold Faust

Berthold Faust (* 1935 in Hofheim am Taunus ) is a German artist. He is best known for his realistic animal drawings. In order to even the smallest details accurately reproduce, serve him his own careful observations of nature, but in addition also photographs, specimens and the microscope. Formative in his career was the lessons with Ludwig Meidner, in the time of Hofheimer artist circle.

Career

Berthold Faust is a trained typographer and graphic artist, he worked in three different advertising agencies in Frankfurt, after four years as a layout followed by seven years as an art director, after two years as a Creative Director. During all this time he studied painting with Josef fist, Oswald specialist, Wilhelm Görlich and Ludwig Meidner. Looking for idealistic commitment, he turned from the advertising business from, engaged in nature conservation and became full-time freelance illustrator.

While he was known in his youth for drawings and images of the historic city Hofheims, he soon devoted himself to the nature, especially the birds. The emerging interest in nature in the seventies in Germany offered this opportunity. Faust's first publication ( Save the Birds, 1977) became a bestseller. Since then he has illustrated many books, the knowledge of nature and nature conservation are aimed. Faust's work was often exhibited, toured his 1995 exhibition Nature in Portraits images by Berthold own through Germany. He is considered one of the most important natural history illustrators whose illustrations ( and views) are asked to endangered species, such as numerous press reports document.

Today Faust lives in Kriftel near Frankfurt am Main.
