Berthold Koch

Berthold Koch ( born February 22, 1899 in Berlin, † 2 May 1988) was a German chess player.

Koch played tournament and correspondence chess, and was editor of the magazine bay.

Tournament chess

1926 Koch was awarded the title of German Champion. In 1946 he was master of the Soviet zone of occupation and after the founding of the GDR in 1952 GDR Champion. Four times he won the Berlin championship. Koch took in 1952 and 1956 for the GDR participated in the Chess Olympiads.

Correspondence Chess

Koch also played intense correspondence chess. He was an International Master of the IFSB. In the second Correspondence Chess World Championship, he was ranked 7 to 9, when Dr. Dyckhoff Memorial Tournament ( 1954-1956) rank 3 to 4

Editor

1947, the magazine Chess Express was founded in East Berlin. This was renamed in 1951 in chess and still exists today (2008). Koch was until 1966 the responsible editor. The constant heading Chess teaches chess - High School of the combination was founded by him under the name We teach chess. Kurt Richter built the section later very successful.
