Bertold Hummel

Bertold Hummel ( born November 27, 1925 in Huefingen; † August 9, 2002 in Würzburg ) was a German composer of contemporary music.

Life

Hummel was born as the son of the teacher, choirmaster and organist Gustav Hummel in Huefingen, where he lived until the family moved to Merzhausen at Freiburg in 1932.

He studied from 1947 to 1954 at the Musikhochschule in Freiburg im Breisgau composition with Harald Genzmer and cello with Atis Teichmanis. 1954-1956 Concert tours as a composer and cellist. 1956-1963 Bertold Hummel was choirmaster in Freiburg and freelancer of Südwestfunk Baden -Baden and was appointed in 1963 as a teacher of composition at the then State Conservatory in Würzburg. 1963-1988 he was the successor of Lotte Kliebert as Chairman of the Studio for New Music in Würzburg, 1974, he was appointed professor. 1979 to 1987 he was president of the Academy of Music in Würzburg (since 1988 whose honorary president ), and since 1982 member of the Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts. He held guest lectures and traveled to performances of his works in Europe, the USA, South America, Canada, CIS, Australia, Egypt and South Africa.

Hummel married in 1955, the violinist sinking Steffen, from the marriage were born six sons. Bertold Hummel died in 2002 in Würzburg.
