Berwaldhallen

The Berwaldhallen is a concert hall in the Östermalm district of the Swedish capital Stockholm. It is named after Franz Berwald, one of the most important Swedish composers of the 19th century.

The building was constructed between 1976 and 1979 on behalf of Sveriges Radio by architects Erik Sune Lindström and Ahnborg. It has since become the venue of the symphony orchestra of the radio station. For two-thirds of the building a cavity in the existing rock was blown up, so that only a small portion is visible from the outside. Thus, the building fits unobtrusively into the adjacent parkland.

The concert hall can accommodate 1,300 visitors and on the stage, up to 100 musicians can congregate. This room is hexagonal and has a particularly good acoustics.
