Berwick Prize

The Berwick prices are mathematics prices of the London Mathematical Society ( LMS), which are named after the former Vice President of the LMS William Edward Hodgson Berwick ( 1888-1944 ). Senior Berwick Prize and Berwick Prize will be awarded alternately (ie each every two years).

The Berwick Prize was formerly (until 1999 ) Junior Berwick price. It is awarded in odd-numbered years. The winner must be a member of the LMS, shall not be members of the Royal Society and may not have more than 15 year career as a post -doctoral mathematicians behind. Winners of the Senior Berwick Prize, which De Morgan Medal, the Whitehead Prize, the Senior Whitehead Prize, the Naylor Prize and the Pólya Prize are excluded. The award is for outstanding mathematical contributions published in the previous eight years, awarded by the LMS. The first prize was awarded in 1947.

The Senior Berwick Prize is awarded for outstanding work by a member of the LMS that was previously published in the eight years of the LMS. The person neither the De Morgan Medal, the Naylor Prize, the Senior Whitehead Prize or the Pólya Prize of the LMS have received. It is awarded in even-numbered years. The first prize was awarded in 1946.
