Bet Israel Synagogue (Izmir)

The Beth Israel Synagogue ( Turkish Bet İsrail Sinagogu ) is a Sephardic Orthodox synagogue in Karataş district of Izmir (Turkey). It is located under the Tarihi Asansör at the Mithatpaşa Street and was opened in 1907.

The Beth Israel Synagogue was built by a firman of the governor of Izmir on the Sadrazam Mehmed Pasha Kâmil under Sultan Abdulhamid II as a place of prayer for Jews. Since then it has the largest house of worship for the Jews of Izmir. In the 1950s, the synagogue was renovated. In 2007, the 100th anniversary of the synagogue was celebrated.
