Beverly Pepper

Beverly Pepper ( born December 20, 1924 in New York) is an American painter and sculptor.

Life and work

Beverly Pepper was in Brooklyn New York on 20 December 1922. When she married the journalist and author Curtis Bill Pepper, she changed her maiden name Stoll in Pepper. She studied at the Pratt Institute and Brooklyn College. She knew the artist Frederick Kiesler and continued her studies in 1949 in Paris at the Académie de la Grande Chaumiere. Beverly Pepper works and lives in Todi, Italy and New York City.

The artist painted from 1949 to 1960 and learned in that time the work of Fernand Léger, Ossip Zadkine, Brancusi and the Cubists André L' Hote know. In 1951, she moved to Todi in Italy.

From 1960, she turned to sculpture and art in public space. The curator Giovanni Carandente invited her along with David Smith (sculptor ), Alexander Calder, Arnaldo Pomodoro, Lynn Chadwick and Pietro Consagra to prepare an exhibition.

Pepper works in the field of land art and uses stainless steel, painted steel, bronze, stone, cast iron for her sculptures. She regularly presents at the André Emmerich Gallery, New York and the Marlborough Gallery d' Arte from Rome, Italy.
