BeyoÄŸlu SK

Beyoğluspor (Greek Αθλητικός Σύλλογος Πέρα Sports Club Pera ) is a Turkish sports club based in Istanbul. Their home games wearing the yellow and black of the Beyoğlu Stadium. It is next to a Kurtuluş SK of the few remaining Greek foundations in the city and dispatched teams in volleyball, basketball and football.

History

Beyoğluspor was founded in 1914 under the name of Greek football team; Originally the club was founded in 1884 as the Greek called " Pera ", but not officially registered. With the proclamation of the Turkish Republic, it was renamed in 1923 in Beyoğluspor.

The efforts of the club managers and presidents such as G. Chalkousis, p Kanakis, G. and A. Mouzakis Tripos played a decisive role that the team successfully played in the first division. On the other hand, many athletes also played on the international stage, such as the World weightlifting champion and later coach of the Greek weightlifting team, Christos Iacovou.

The majority of the fans were members of the Greek community of the city. From the mid- 1940s Beyoğluspor was supported not only by Greek Istanbullus, but also from the drawn Turkish population of the district. Furthermore, the team was from the late 1940s, from more and more Turkish players. The popularity of the club was dramatically after the pogrom in Istanbul in 1955. However, experienced Beyoğluspor a decrease of fans after Lefter Küçükandonyadis a football player of Greek descent and one of the best players in Turkey, played in the 1950s and 1960s for Fenerbahçe - which meant that most local Greeks occasionally expressed their support for Fenerbahçe.
