Bhartá¹›hari

Bhartrihari ( Sanskrit: भर्तृहरि, Bhartrhari; lived between the 5th and 7th century ) was a North Indian lyricist and poet laureate. He was the first Indian poet who was known in Europe by a translation of his work.

Bhartrihari is considered an important representative of the Sanskrit poetry and author of the collection of sayings Subhashita Trishati (300 wise sayings ). The popular in India Verssammlung consists of each of 100 sayings about love, proper behavior and religious asceticism. In the 17th century the plant arrived by Dutch missionaries to Europe and has been translated for the first time. His transfer from Sanskrit into German was first published in 1835.
