Bhoja

Bhoja or Bhojaraja (Sanskrit Bhoja भोज m. ) Was an Indian king of Malva in the first half of the 11th century. He was a big promoter of the literature.

Life

Bhoja belonged to the Paramara dynasty that ruled the Kingdom of Malva. He followed his father around 1000 Sindhuraja to the throne and led several successful wars, especially against the Chalukya and brought his empire to a heyday. However, towards the end of his reign, he was subject to attacks by the Chalukya and died during the campaign a violent fever. This was followed throne turmoil in which at first Jayasimha prevailed, but was soon replaced by Udayaditya, who arranged the Empire. Both belonged probably to the immediate family of Bhoja.

Bhoja was across the country to build dams and reservoirs and built the royal city of Dhara, where he built several temples and a Sanskrit school. To which he founded the city of Bhojpur.

Bhoja was a patron of Sanskrit literature and wrote even more fonts, in which he abhandelte variety of topics, such as alchemy, architecture, astronomy, law, iconography, philosophy, poetry, rhetoric, shipbuilding and yoga. Bhoja was a Shivait, who took a dualistic position.

Works

King Bhoja be attributed to more than 80 works, but it is believed that he so many works may not have even written himself, and that some of them come from his Hofschreibern. Among the most important works include:

  • Samarāṅgaṇa - sūtradhāra (architecture, iconography )
  • Sarasvatī - kaṇṭhābharaṇa ( Poetics )
  • Sringara - Prakasa ( poetics, dramaturgy )
  • Tattvaprakāśa ( shivaitische philosophy)
  • Yuktikalpataru ( shipbuilding)
