Bhola Island

Bhola Iceland, also Dakhin Shahbazpur, is the largest island of Bangladesh with a land area of 1441 km ². Located in the delta of the Meghna island is part of the district of Bhola and has about 1.7 million inhabitants. The island can be reached by means of ferries. Bhola itself has a good infrastructure. The power supply is provided by a local gas field.

In November 1975, broke out on the island one of the last large smallpox epidemics of the 20th century.

In 1995, the island was flooded half, leading to the homelessness of about 500,000 people according to. The flood disaster is related to the rise in sea levels due to global warming.
