Bhuj (weapon)

The Bhuj ( or Khutti, Katti or elephant knife ) is a pole weapon from India.

Description

The Bhuj has a short, wide and heavy S- shaped blade. This is single-edged and attached to a 50 cm long, metal, round shank. The blade holder is often made in the shape of an elephant head, hence the name "Elephant knife". In many models, the metal shaft at the rear end is hollow and includes a dagger. At Knauf a pointed dagger blade is attached. The knob serves as a handle of the dagger and can be pulled out when needed from the stem of Bhuj.

The name implies that the weapon out of the city Bhuj dates, but she was also in the angrenzendnen Sindh (now Pakistan) as well as in the whole of North India popular.

Use

The use of the Bhuj corresponds to the European Polearms as Berdysch or halberd. Bhuj is suitable as bat-like as a stabbing weapon. The long shank the weapon can be performed with both hands.
