Bialaphos (L -alanyl -L-alanyl -phosphinothricin ) is a natural tripeptide consisting of the amino acids alanine and phosphinothricin. Bialaphos was isolated as a product of two different soil-dwelling Streptomyces ( Streptomyces hygroscopicus and Streptomyces viridochromogenes ). Bialaphos has herbicidal properties, which go back to the biologically active phosphinothricin group.
