Views of beavers

Beaver was up on December 31, 2013 a municipality in the district of Bucheggberg the canton of Solothurn in Switzerland. On 1 January 2014 merged with the former municipalities Aetigkofen beavers, Aetingen, Brügglen, Gossliwil, Hessigkofen, Küttigkofen, Kyburg, mill village and Tscheppach the new community Buchegg.

Geography

Beavers is at 512 m above sea level. M., 9 km south-west of the main town Canton of Solothurn (air line). The scattered village extends into the wide valley of Beaver creek in the center of the heights of the Bucheggbergs, in the Solothurn Plateau.

The area of ​​3.0 km ² large municipality area includes a portion of the Molassehöhen of Bucheggberg. The central part of the area occupied by the 400 m wide valley of Beaver creek, which flows northeast to Emme. South of Biberentals is on the slope of the plateau Hessigkofen 590 m above sea. Population

With 255 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) beaver is one of the small communities of the Canton of Solothurn. Of the residents 98.2 % are German, 1.4 % Spanish-speaking and 0.5 % speak Polish (as of 2000). The population of beavers amounted in 1850 to 222 residents in 1900 to 235 inhabitants. During the 20th century, the population fluctuated always in the range 180-230 inhabitants.

Economy

Beaver was up in the second half of the 20th century a predominantly coined by agriculture village. By melioration of Biberntals and moss before 1836 valuable cultural land has been won. In beavers there used to be several tanneries and an oil mill. Even today, the farming and fruit growing and cattle breeding have an important place in the economic structure of the population. History

The territory of beavers was settled very early, which could be detected by single finds from the Neolithic Age and the Roman period. The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1366 under the name Bibron; from 1368 the name Bibren is preserved. Name researchers derive the name actually on the animal beaver.

Since its first mention of beavers was under the rule Buchegg, which was part of the County of Burgundy country, acquired in 1391 from Solothurn and was converted to the Bailiwick Bucheggberg. Until 1798, the high court was the Bernese district court Zollikofen while Solothurn with the Aetingen of court exercised the lower courts. After the collapse of the ancien régime (1798 ) was one of beavers during the Helvetic Republic to the district Biberist and from 1803 to the District Bucheggberg. Beavers does not have its own church, it belongs to the parish Oberwil in Buren.
