Bicinchoninic acid (English bicinchoninic acid, BCA) is the common name for the chemical compound 2,2 '- biquinoline -4, 4'-dicarboxylic acid. Is a heterocyclic compound consisting of two linked in the 2- position Chinolinmolekülen each carrying carboxyl groups in the 4- position. Thus it is a dicarboxylic acid.
Properties
BCA reacts as biquinoline with monovalent copper ions to a complex compound with a violet color.
Use
BCA reaction in biochemistry to quantitatively, the photometric determination of protein (0.5 ug / ml - 1.5 mg / ml ) was used. This divalent copper ions react quantitatively with protein to monovalent copper ions. These come with the bicinchoninic acid a violet dye whose absorption can be measured photometrically at a wavelength of 562 nm.
