Bicycle parking rack

A bicycle parking, bicycle parking or just parking area ( known colloquially as bicycle ) is a structural device for bicycles. At the places where bikes usually are often turned off, you can find a variety of technical assistance for bicycle parking. Often they are combined with a fixation possibility so that you can connect the bike. Such public and private bike racks are also known as bicycle parking, bicycle parking system, bicycle racks or bicycle station. Especially at schools, swimming pools, train stations and shops you will find these facilities.

Tasks

A bicycle parking shall meet the following requirements:

  • The bike should be in stable
  • The risk of damage is to be minimized
  • At least the bike frame ( and desirable: a wheel ) should be able to be secured against theft with a normal padlock
  • During loading of luggage and the bike child seats must not slip away
  • There are different sized bikes and wheels can be placed with different fat tires

Construction types

There are a variety of constructions. Not every frame construction is suitable for every type of wheel.

Older wood and metal railings and similar modern stand construction allow for gentle sideways leaning on and shutting off wheels. An example is the Kreuzberg temple that was introduced in this part of Berlin in the 1980s.

The to-find on older stations, very elaborate bicycle storage facilities have a roof slanting upward and pulling channels in which the bicycle can be a space-saving housed half horizontal, half vertical. In recent times, there are a few so-called bicycle lockers, luggage lockers are similar lockable and can accommodate an entire wheel.

Many plants can be only the front wheel in a bracket fix. Although can be parked as space-saving and very low many bikes. In practice, however, this construction often prove completely unfit. Often thick / wide front wheels do not fit into each bracket and thin road bike tires are anyway rarely fixed. A serious disadvantage is the lack of opportunity to secure the bicycle frame with carriage on the stand, as it is recommended by all insurance companies. The bike can be easily carried away in this case, or it can be secured only the front wheel, which makes carrying away the rest of the wheel.

Examples of simple structures are concrete blocks with a recessed round slot in which the front wheel is fixed and other forms of so-called front wheel clamps or clips. A metal pipe stand with similar clamping slots called Ironing Parker. Also widely used are metal spirals, in the spaces between the front wheel should be inserted. These stands are available for the design of public places at fine retailers (eg concrete paving industry ). Variants extend up to tree trunks, in which the corresponding slots are sawn. These and similar systems are pejoratively also Knicker rims or rims killer named because the wheels can absorb less strongly the transverse forces and thereby may be damaged. In addition, with a bicycle lock normal length not be connected to the frame ..
