Bidache
Bidache (Basque Bidaxune, Gascon Bidaishe ), is a commune with 1289 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Pyrénées- Atlantiques in the Aquitaine region. It belongs to the district of Bayonne and the canton Bidache. The city lies on the River Bidouze, at the mouth of its tributary Lihoury.
History
Earlier descriptions of the place are: Vidaxen ( 1312) and Vidayxon ( 1329 ), Bidaxen ( 1489 ). From the late 16th century until the Revolution was Bidache a small principality that described himself as sovereign, and which was owned by the Dukes of Gramont. From 1790 belonged to the same Bidache Canton, but in turn consisted only of the place and was the district of Saint-Palais attributed.
