Big Bell Temple

The Big Bell Temple (大钟寺/大钟寺, Dazhong si), the (觉 生 寺/觉 生 寺, Juesheng si) was originally Juesheng Temple, is a Buddhist temple on the road Beisanhuan Xilu in Beijing's Haidian District.

History

The temple was built in 1733 in the Yongzheng era of the Qing Dynasty. The name of the temple comes from the famous, in the time of the Yongle era (1403-1424) of the Ming Dynasty Yongle cast clapper -less bell ( Yongle Dazhong ), which can be found today in the temple. It weighs 46.5 tons, is 6.75 m high and has an outer diameter of 3.3 m. Originally, the bell was named after the Avatamsaka Sutra (Chinese Huayan jing ) ( " Huayan Bell" ), which is poured on her bell body in relief in

The Juesheng Temple is located since 1996 in the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China ( 4-166 ).

In the temple is located since 1985 a bell museum ( Guzhong Bowuguan; engl Ancient Bell Museum. ).
