Bíldudalur

Bíldudalur is a small fishing village in the municipality Vesturbyggð in Iceland's Westfjords region. He had 2012 168 inhabitants on 1 January.

From the road 60 connecting the Breiðafjörður and the ferry terminal Brjánslækur with the North, the West Fjords branches on the pass Helluskarð the road 63 down to Bíldudalur from. History

The town was formed gradually to a trading post of the Danes around, which was built after the introduction of monopoly trade at the beginning of the 17th century here. The area assigned to the Bíldudalur dealer extended north to the south coast of the Arnarfjörður and to the east even to the Þórskafjörður, the side of the fjord northeastern Breiðafjörður.

In the 19th century the city flourished due to commercial initiative and fisheries. Ólafur Thorlacius (1761-1815) bought in Bíldudalur after the end of the Danish trade monopoly one. He was one of the most influential merchants in Iceland at the beginning of the 19th century, bought and sold fish and trade goods and conversed own small fishing fleet. One of his successors, Pétur J. Þorsteinnsson (1854-1924) continued this successful.
