BILL 1 Anti-tank guided weapon

Bill is a shoulder-mounted anti-tank guided weapon of the company Bofors. The system is also referred to RBS 56.

Development

The weapon system was developed by Bofors BILL for the Swedish army and for export. Development began in 1979. The production order by the Swedish army took place in 1985. The first systems were delivered in 1988. The improved version BILL -2 was introduced in 1999.

Technology

The system consists of a glass fiber reinforced plastic pipe of the missile, and a control and sighting device, which is attached to the pipe. A thermal imaging device can be mounted on the steering unit above, wherein the image is displayed in the eyepiece

The weapon is aimed at the target and firing the missile. When starting a small ejection charge transported the missile from the launch tube. Immediately after leaving the tube, the wings and the rocket motor ignites unfold. The missile flies 1 m above the finish line and detonates after triggering by contact or a laser proximity fuze over the target. The HEAT warhead is installed in the inclined angle of 30 ° downward in missile body, so the target can be controlled from above. During this attack profile of the shaped charge warhead has penetrated only the thin roof armor of the battle tank. Nor can such goals combat, which are in cover.

The improved version BILL - 2 is equipped with two HEAT warheads of the company RUAG to combat battle tanks with reactive armor. BILL - 2 has a maximum operating distance of 2,200 m.
