Bill Miller (athlete)
Bill Miller (actually William Preston Miller, born February 22, 1930 in Lawnside, New Jersey) was an American javelin thrower, who was successful in the early 1950s as a javelin thrower.
Miller participated in Helsinki at the 1952 Olympics. The qualifications required width of 64 m, it surpassed the first attempt, with a throw over 64.81 m. In the final he clearly rose and landed just like his compatriot Cy Young three litters beyond the 70 - m mark:
- Miller: 72,46 - 71.65 to 70.45
- Young: 73,78 - 72.80 to 71.90
Thus, Miller won the silver medal behind Young. For the performance- usual Finns this time there was only the bronze medal, although Toivo Hyytiäinen had achieved in five of his final six litters lengths over 70 m (Best width 71.89 m).
